ARGONAUTS HOLD ON TO DEFEAT GATORS

 

San Francisco, Calif.--- In both team’s 2006 season opener, it was the visiting Notre Dame de Namur University Argonauts defeating the San Francisco State University Gators (0-1) 2-1 this afternoon at SF State’s Cox Stadium. 

            Lissette Garay (Jr, F, Salinas, CA/Notre Dame HS) gave the Gators a 1-0 as she scored off a ball from Julie Campbell (Jr, M, San Diego, CA/Cal State Monterey Bay) twelve minutes into the first half.  The Argonauts tied the match at 1-1 with ten minutes to go in the first half as Amy Armijo connected on a pass from Shana Chibidakis.

            The match remained tied at 1-1 until the 71:22 mark when the Argonauts’ Morghan King scored what proved to be the game-winner off a pass from Kelli Brackinreed.  Notre Dame de Namur out shot the Gators 13-9 including 8-4 in the second half. 

            Candice Shrodetzki recorded three saves in goal for the Argonauts while Sarah Balderas (Jr, GK, Walnut, CA/Cypress College) recorded three saves in goal for SF State.

            The Gators are off until Labor Day Weekend when they travel to the State of Washington for a pair of Regional match-ups.  September 3rd at 4pm, the Gators will face Central Washington in Ellensburg and on the 6th, they will travel to Seattle for a 12pm match with the Redhawks of Seattle University.
