SOFTBALL

KENDRA WOOD NAMED TO DAKTRONICS

ALL-WEST REGION TEAM

 

San Francisco, Calif..---  SF State’s softball player Kendra Wood (Fr, DP/P, San Jose, Calif/Lynbrook HS) was selected to the 2008 Daktronics All-West Region Softball First Team as voted on by the region’s Sports Information Directors.  This is the second post-season award that Wood has received this month as earlier this month she was named to the 2008 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Second Team.

            Wood finished her first season as Gator with a .312 batting average with 48 hits of which 9 were doubles and 7 were home runs.  She tied for the team lead in home runs, doubles, and in hits while driving in 30 runs and scoring 21 times.  The San Jose native had a .506 slugging percentage with a .390 on-base percentage.

            On the pitching mound, Wood was 11-8 while appearing in 23 games and pitching in 123.1 innings.  She had a team low 1.76 earned run average while her opponents batted .244 against her.  The SF State Department of Athletics Female Freshman of the Year also had 72 strikeouts and 45 walks.
