CARINI AND KAVANAUGH NAMED TO ALL-CCAA TEAM

 

San Francisco, Calif.---  The SF State Gator baseball duo of Bobby Carini (Jr, 2B, Pleasant Hill, Calif/Canada College) and Matt Kavanaugh (Sr, C, Concord, Calif./Butte Junior College) were named to the 2008 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Honorable Mention Team as announced by the conference office this afternoon.  The All-CCAA Team was voted on by the league’s head coaches.

            Carini, in his first season as a Gator, batted a team high .321 while driving in 34 runs, scoring a team high 46 runs, and he led the team with his 67 hits of which 9 were doubles, two were triples and 8 were home runs.  His 8 home runs led the Gators.  The second baseman also had a .498 slugging percentage with a .423 on-base percentage.  The junior stole a team high 17 bases this season in 21 attempts.

            Kavanaugh was selected to the All-CCAA Team for the second time in his career at SF State.  He finished his senior season with a .309 batting average while driving in a team high 47 times while scoring 34 times.  The senior catcher had a team high 21 doubles, which tied the school’s single season record with Pete Dearborn for doubles in a season.  Kavanaugh also had one triple and seven doubles while posting a .522 slugging and .390 on-base percentages.
