SF STATE FALLS IN GAME ONE

 

San Francisco, Calif.---  SF State’s baseball team lost 16-3 to the visiting Cal State Golden Eagles (26-22, 20-12 CCAA) this afternoon in game one of this weekend’s four game series between the Gators and Golden Eagles at Maloney Field.  SF State falls to 8-43-1 overall and 2-31 in the CCAA.

            Cal State LA took a 4-0 lead after the first two innings, but SF State cut the Golden Eagles lead in half with a two-run second inning keyed by Ernie Munoz two-run single up the middle.  Cal State LA added three more in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 10-2 lead after five.  The Golden Eagles broke the game open with a six-run seventh to take a 16-2 lead after six and a half innings.  The Gators scored a run in the seventh to end the game’s scoring to make the final 16-3 Golden Eagles. 

            Isaac Morales (9-1) picked up the win, pitching six innings, giving up three runs and six this while striking out two and walking three.  Kenny Shanahan was 4 for 6 with two RBIs while scoring four times to lead the way for Cal State LA.  Jeff Henning fell to 0-5 for the Gators.  Ernie Munoz and Jeff McCall each had two hits for SF State.  The two teams will continue their four-game series tomorrow morning with an 11am starting doubleheader at Maloney Field.
