San Francisco, Calif..--- SF State’s softball team improved to 15-11
overall and 5-7 in the CCAA including a perfect 8-0 at home with a doubleheader
sweep of CCAA opponent, CSU San Bernardino this afternoon at SF State’s
Softball Field. The two teams will
return to the diamond tomorrow at noon
for another conference doubleheader at SF State’s Softball Field.
Jordanna Freemer (Sr, 1B, Oakley,
Calif/Freedom HS) drove in the only run
that freshman pitcher Ashley Jackson (Vallejo,
Calif/St.
Patrick’s-St. Vincent HS) needed with a RBI single that scored Karolyn Gubbine (So, OF, Richmond,
Calif/Pinole Valley HS) in the bottom of
the third inning.
The
Coyotes had a chance to score in the fifth with the bases loaded, but Jackson got the Coyotes to line into a double
play. Jackson (7-4) pitched a complete game
seven-hit shutout while striking out five and walking two in picking up the win
in game one. Debbie Shisler (3-3) took
the loss for the Coyotes (18-16-1, 9-7 CCAA) pitching six innings, giving up
seven hits and one run while striking out two. Freemer and Gubbine each
had two hits a piece to lead the Gator hitting attack.
Then in
game two, the Gators took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on RBI single
to left field by Freemer that drove
in Gubbine with the game’s first
run. The Coyotes tied the game at 1-1,
when Jordan Dahl scored on a double steal attempt by CSU San Bernardino. Freemer broke the tie in the Gators’
half of the third with a solo home run to center field, her fourth of the
season.
SF State
added two more runs in the sixth on a two-out two-run double by Alyssa Esquibel (Fr, O, San
Jose, Calif/Archbishop Mitty
HS). Dahl cut the Gator lead in half
with a RBI double in the seventh with two outs that scored Debbie Shisler, but Kendra Wood (Fr, P, San
Jose, Calif/Lynbrook HS) got
the final Coyote to fly out to left field for the final out of the game.
Wood (5-1) picked up the win, pitching
seven innings, giving up four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking
three and walking two. Tawni Baker (6-5)
