KENNEY AND LAMET TO PLAY FOR GATORS THIS FALL

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.----  First-year head coach Michelle Patton has announced her first recruit for the upcoming 2008 season in Kristin Kenney from Monterey, California.  Kenney is a junior college transfer from Cabrillo College, where she was a setter for the Seahawks.

“Kristin has played among the best at the California JC level and did a outstanding job leading her team to a successful season,” said SF State Head Coach Michelle Patton. "She has excellent work ethic and has the necessary tools to become an effective setter at this level," added Patton. "Her experience is going to play an important role in helping lead this young team throughout our inaugural season."

While at Cabrillo, Kenney led her team to the 2007 California Junior College State Championships.  She was a two-time member of the All-Conference Team.  The newest member to the 2008 Gator volleyball team graduated from Monterey High School in 2006.  Kenney was named to the First Team All-Conference Team as well as the All-County Team. She was named the Monterey Bay League Most Valuable Player and the team’s Coaches’ Award recipient.

She is the daughter of Andrea and Kevin Kenney and the sister of Patrick and Zachary.

Coach Patton also has announced the signing of  Kyle Lamet from Benicia, California.  Lamet is a 6’0 outside hitter that was a four-year letter-winner at Carondelet High School.

"Kyle is a great addition to our Class of 2008,” said Patton. "She is a terrific all-around player and understands the game,” added Patton.  "Her experience playing at a high level along with her competitiveness is going to be great for Gator Volleyball."

While a member of Cougar’s volleyball team, Lamet was a three-time member of the First Team All-BVAL.  This past season, she was also the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) along with being team’s MVP.  The daughter of Chris Lamet and Michelle Hall also named the Player of the Week and the Player of the Month.  During her junior season, she was Team MVP along with being the Wendy’s Heisman Award nominee and Player of the Week.  Her sophomore season, she was also Player of the Week and during her freshman season was the Gatorade Rookie of the Year and Honorable Mention All-League.

She also played softball at Carondelt High School and was a Two-time recipient of the First Team All-League.

SF State will be bringing back women’s volleyball this coming Fall.  The Gators are affiliated with the NCAA Division II and a member of the prestigious California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
