Position Summary

 

This position is a Senior Administrative position within the Department of Athletics at San Francisco State University.  The individual will oversee all athletic department development activities. The responsibilities consist of planing, directing and cultivating the fundraising program for intercollegiate athletics including the coordination and monitoring of individual team development projects.  As the Assistant Director of Development and External Operations, this position will provide leadership of the annual giving program, major gifts, corporate sponsorship, alumni relations, special events, volunteerism, stewardship and external marketing and promotion.  Additionally, this position promotes development in the community, establishes contacts with alumni and works with the Office of University Advancement to coordinate the Department of Athletics fundraising activities.  The position may be assigned supervision of athletic personnel and programs.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience. 

 

Work experience: 2+ years of substantial development and/or fundraising experience.  A proven record of accomplishment in regards to development and fundraising is preferred.

 

Specialized Knowledge: Understanding of the academic and athletic enterprise and the ability to articulate these values internally and externally.

 

Skills:  Research, development and evaluation of policies/programs; collection, evaluation, interpretation of data; develop sound conclusions; make appropriate recommendations; expertise in investigating/analyzing problems with broad impact and/or implications; use of judgment and discretion. 

 

Specialized Skills: expertise in MS Office, knowledge/use of PC, Windows operating system, the Internet, University Development databases; effective organizational/analytical, writing/verbal/presentation and editing skills, including experience in developing and writing proposals; excellent interpersonal/communication skills.

 

Abilities: Take initiative; independently plan/organize/coordinate work; anticipate problems; use creativity and ingenuity; work additional hours to meet critical deadlines and complete projects/assignments; interpret/organize/present information/ideas effectively; recruit/lead/motivate/train schedule work of volunteers and others; recommend strategy to enhance employee performance.

 

Specialized abilities: Independently handle a large number of fundraising and alumni relations activities; build productive Athletic Department programs; establish goals and objective; develop/implement strategies; work with volunteers. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

Three+ years experience in fundraising or related/applicable experience.

A proven record of accomplishment in regards to development and fundraising.

 

Ability to demonstrate and implemented a successful in special gifts donor cultivation, solicitation and special events.

Skills and ability to work effectively with volunteers.

Demonstrated skills to initiate programmatic activities and events to support Athletic Department development and alumni relations goals.

Candidate must have a strong interest in the development and welfare of student-athletes
