Simpson has announced on August 6, 2007, that Michelle Patton will be the head coach of the Gator volleyball program that will start up in the 2008-09 academic year. In Michelle Patton we have found an excellent professional to re-establish our volleyball program,' said Dr. Michael J. Simpson. She comes to us with a wealth of experience as a collegiate player, coach, and recruiter, added Simpson. As a Bay Area Native, she is familiar with our conference and recruiting base, noted Simpson. If you add in her commitment to academic achievement, student-athlete welfare and personal energy, our program should advance rapidly and in a positive direction. Patton comes to SF State from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, where she was the First Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator for the Cowgirls since February 2004. Last season, she help guide the Cowgirls to a 13-15 overall record including a 7-9 record in the Mountain West Conference which placed them in fifth. While at Wyoming, she was the Lead Camp Coach/Camp Administrator for the Pat Stangle Volleyball Camps during the summers of 2004, 2005, and 2006. "I'm really excited to be back in Northern California and to restart the volleyball program at SF State in the Fall of 2008, noted Coach Patton. "I appreciate the opportunity that Dr. Simpson has given me in becoming the new head women's volleyball coach at SF State, added Patton. I'm looking forward to working with him and the entire administration as we build this program together, noted the first-year head coach. "I feel like the timing of starting up the women's volleyball program here at SF State is perfect in so many ways, and I am eager to get started." Prior to her stint at Wyoming, Patton was an Assistant Coach the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, from 2002 to 2004. While a member of the Lady Huskies' Volleyball Coaching Staff, she assisted in guiding the Lady Huskies to a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2002 and an Elite Eight finish in 2003. She also was the Lead Camp Coach for the Jim McLaughlin Camps at the University of Washington in July 2002 and 2003. Patton was the setter for the University of Washington's volleyball team from 1994 to 1997. While a member of the Lady Huskies' volleyball team, they were three-time NCAA Tournament participants including advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in 1997. She also played club volleyball for Griffin VBC and Golden Bear VBC in Stanford and Berkeley from 1985 to 1994. The three-time Pac-10 All-Academic recipient received her Bachelor of Arts in English with a Minor in Speech Communications in June of 1999 from the University of Washington. Patton graduated from Monterey High School in Monterey, California, in 1994 and also attended DeAnza High School in Richmond, California. |
