Joe HunterMen's Soccer E-Mail: hunterj@sfsu.edu Phone: (415) 338-7571 Office: Gym 144 Joe Hunter is entering his twelfth season as the head men's soccer coach. In his eleven seasons as the Gator head men's soccer coach, Hunter has amassed a record of 78-144-15. Last season, the Gators finished 7-9-4 and had two players named to the All-Conference Team, both being named to the Second Team. For the second year out of the last years, a Gator men's soccer player received special recognition as a CCAA Dr. Hal Charnofsky honoree. In 1997, Hunter was honored as Northern California Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year after his team compiled a 10-9-1 overall record, 8-6-0 in the NCAC. He has coached several All-NCAC and All-California Collegiate Athletic Association Team Members. He is the past chair of the NCAA Division II West Region Playoff Selection Committee and was a voting member of the NCAA Division II National Soccer Committee. As a coach, Hunter maintains an "A" license for the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the highest coaching level in the United States. He holds memberships with the USSF Coaches Association and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Hunter was previously a staff member of the USSF for Region IV working with the Olympic Development Program as an evaluator and coach and served the same duties with the California Youth Soccer Association. Hunter is active within the Bay Area soccer community. He is currently working on the staff of the Novato Youth Soccer Association as a clinician and youth coach evaluator. Hunter served as an assistant with the men's team for five seasons before taking over the reigns as head coach in 1995. During his tenure as assistant, Hunter was the primary recruiter for the men's program. He also assisted the women's program in varying capacities. Hunter came to SFSU after spending six seasons as a player and assistant coach at Sonoma State University. He was a two-time all-conference player for the Cossacks (1986-87) who also earned all-region honors as a senior. Prior to Sonoma State, Hunter earned all-conference honors twice as a junior college player at Santa Rosa Junior College. Academically, Hunter has a bachelor's degree from Sonoma State (1987) and a master's degree from SFSU (1997). Personally, Hunter with his sons Joseph and Nathan reside in Novato. In their spare time, they enjoy camping, hiking, and biking. |
